Need of IP QoS |
|
|
Jeonju University wanted to use existing bandwidth (35MBps) as efficiently as it could be instead of bandwidth expansion. Universities generally bear numerous types network traffics center at specific periods that delay academic managements of its own function and laboratory activities of valuable studies.
Moreover, multiple servers operated were exposed to network virus or DoS (Denial of Service) attack like hackings requiring effective counter measures.

|
|
Required improvement |
- Guarantee of mission-critical traffics (academic managements, e-mail, groupware¡¦etc)
- Guarantee of remote lecturing service
- Blocking DoS attacks, Worm viruses and other malicious inbound traffics
- Providence of applicable data for convenient reports

|
Why TaskQoS |
¡°We have realized that meaningful share of our bandwidth was occupied by malicious traffics such as P2P/ FTP, file transfer through messenger services and personal server operation other than legalized servers after TaskQoS BMT. Based on the BMT results, we have set maximum bandwidth allowed for FTP & P2P that keeps them lower than the limit and it visibly improved network reliability even under traffic burst condition. We also were able to block virus packets and DoS attacks with L7 filtering functions supported and find source server infected by virus to prevent malicious traffic generation¡±
¡°We have classified critical users and traffics to guarantee stable service through monitoring process after policy application and allocated appropriate bandwidth. Based on the results QoS policies were modified for optimization and became capable of preventing network abuses by malicious traffics from messengers or P2P but instead improved priority-based traffic guarantee. TaskQoS has been the existing best solution for our limited bandwidth regardless of its size for both our university and network administrators.¡±
¡°Aside from TaskQoS, TQLog provided network status report and deep analysis on blocked malicious traffics which surely have enabled more efficient network operation and administration.

|
Post-effects of TaskQoS |
-Critical traffics are guaranteed through network service optimization
-Network resources are protected from Worm viruses and DoS attacks
-Network administration efficiency has been maximized through TQLog analysis
-Non-stop service is actualized with perfect fail-over solution
